A Clear Difference On Taxes And Spending

by Mike Fedele on July 19, 2010

You’d think everyone would know by now that our budget crisis is the result of out of control spending, not a shortage of taxes.  Yet both the Democrats in Hartford and my Republican opponents have refused to acknowledge this reality.

While I’ve been saying it for months, last week I took an important step and became the only candidate in this race to sign the Americans for Tax Reform taxpayer protection pledge promising that as Governor I will “oppose and veto any and all efforts to increase taxes.”

I signed the pledge because I am committed to solving our budget crisis without resorting to more of the same crippling tax hikes that we’ve seen in the past.  Instead, I am offering a clear choice between my common sense plan to reign in spending and reduce the size of state government, and my opponents who refuse to rule out increasing taxes.

The first job our next Governor will face is closing the budget deficit and I’m prepared to take it on.  As Grover Norquist, the President of Americans for Tax Reform put it:

“By signing the Pledge, Fedele has thrown down the gauntlet to his opponents and is showing Connecticut that a Fedele administration would abandon business as usual in Connecticut by standing up for taxpayers and not the spending interests that currently run Hartford”

Please join me in holding the line against tax increases by getting involved with our campaign today.

Thank you,

Mike Fedele

In Bolton Last Night

by Mike Fedele on July 8, 2010

Was proud to be on hand at the Bolton Center School last night to join the community in honoring resident state trooper Ron Turner for his ten years of service.  Ron is starting a new position in Lebanon and everyone had a chance to wish him well.

Independence Day

by Mike Fedele on July 4, 2010

I hope you are enjoying the holiday weekend, celebrating with family and fireworks.  Amidst all the festivities though, it’s important to remember that our freedoms and our independence come at a cost.  Just as in 1776, our men and women in uniform today are making sacrifices to ensure that we can celebrate this Independence Day in peace.  So as we mark 234 years of independence keep those serving in your thoughts.

Happy Independence Day!

Thank you

by Mike Fedele on July 1, 2010

We did it! Today our campaign announced that we have achieved a first for statewide Republican candidates in Connecticut, by filing the necessary paperwork to receive up to $8.5 million dollars in Clean Election Funds. My running mate Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton and I will now have all the resources necessary to take our message into the general election and ensure we elect a Republican Governor in November.

When we began this effort a little more than six months ago, I chose to participate in the Clean Elections Program and reject the special interest money and high dollar donations that have plagued our political process for far too long. With your help, our campaign has raised more than $250,000 dollars in small dollar contributions from close to 3,000 ordinary citizens who share my vision for making state government more affordable, accountable and transparent.

My family and I are overwhelmed by this outpouring of support, and we offer you our most sincere thanks. But there is still much work to be done as we approach the August 10th primary and move on to the November general election. In the coming weeks our campaign will continue to grow and I ask for your continued support as we push on to election day.

I have been truly humbled by your support over the last six months, and with your continued assistance I look forward to celebrating with you in November.

Thank you!

A note from Carol Fedele

by Carol Fedele on June 27, 2010

Our state is facing serious challenges. We are over taxed, our businesses continue to find themselves lost in a maze of government red tape, and thousands of our citizens are struggling to find jobs.

Fedele FamilyI am writing to share my support for the person I feel brings to the table the experience, courage and character to get our economy back on track; and that person is my best friend, my husband of 32 years, the father of our three children, and our Lt. Governor, Michael Fedele.

With your help, Michael is ready to move on into November and bring his Republican principles of family values, limited spending and low taxes to the Governor’s office.

Michael’s more than 30 year career in private enterprise has been marked by success. Michael built an information technology company from the ground up, which he started in Stamford and grew to be a national company. Michael’s experience creating hundreds of jobs in the private sector, paired with time in the state legislature and as Lt. Governor, make him ready to begin solving our state’s problems on day one. And Michael is the only candidate who has pledged to VETO any tax increases.

I can’t assure you that you’ll agree with ALL of the tough decisions that need to be made in the next few years, but I can tell you with absolute certainty, that given the opportunity, you can never find a more diligent, hard working person to govern this State and the people in it that he loves so much.

My Pledge

by Mike Fedele on June 15, 2010

Our state is at a crossroads. Democrat super-majorities in the legislature have left us mired in debt, with near record unemployment and the threat of new taxes ever present. This election is our chance to take a stand against the tax and spend policies that have seen our economy stagnate in recession and employers flee our state in favor of greener, more business friendly pastures. This is why I pledge to you the following:

As your Governor I will veto ANY legislation that proposes to raise our taxes.

Legislative Democrats have been clear, they refuse to make the systematic changes to the state budget necessary to get our economy back on track. They would rather spend, tax and borrow, to appease their special interest friends, than make the difficult choices necessary to grow our economy and create new jobs.

We need a Republican Governor with the character and courage to stand up to the Democrats and their special interest buddies, and I am prepared to be that Governor. This is why I have authored a comprehensive plan to revitalize our economy and lead a state government that is affordable, sustainable and accountable to the those that pay the bills – you the taxpayer.

And with your help, I stand ready to make these tough choices and VETO any proposed tax increases.
